Massage therapy using stones that have been heated has been part of the healing practice of many cultures for centuries. In the past, therapists walked the shores collecting stones that would be appropriate for their healing practice. They learned which stones worked well and which did not by trial and error. Today, most therapists purchase stones through large suppliers. These suppliers often carry only one type of stone and only a few groupings of stones. Kristine Shultis, a nationally certified, state licensed massage therapist for 10 years, came up with this concept after working for many years to incorporate stones into her practice based mainly on the Japanese style of massage therapy, Shiatsu, and the practices of other therapists.
